How to refuse an employer after an interview

It is not simple
“No” is very difficult to say, but it is very easy to feel ungrateful and irresponsible. But if you discard emotions - how many times after the interview did you refuse? Another question - if the company has difficulties, what will it do first? Right, will cut staff. Therefore, moral torment is not necessary.

Make a choice
You can throw a coin and, with a clear conscience, blame responsibility on fate. But it’s better to act like an adult and weigh the benefits.

If a decision needs to be considered, there is nothing better than a good-old table. We compare both vacancies - to which you have already agreed and to which you want to agree, on the following points:

The joy of an employer offer
The work itself (prospects, training, interest in tasks)
Company (management, team, working conditions)
The salary
Any other important factor
For each item, we evaluate vacancies on a 5-point scale. Add up all the points separately and divide by the number of points. Bingo! The numbers speak for themselves.

How to refuse an employer
If the employment contract has already been signed by both parties and the employee has begun to take up duties, he can resign only under the terms of the contract. Therefore, before signing the document, READ it. Even the smallest font.

If the employee is on a trial period or has not yet started work, then it is better to agree in a good way. We are always for honesty - either truthfully state the reason for the refusal, or do not explain at all.

We inform about the refusal both verbally and in writing (by e-mail):

Thank you for the interview and job invitation.
We inform about the resignation
We explain the reason (or do not explain)
Thank you for your time.

What can not be done
Do not tell anyone
Say last minute rejection
Come up with a “very respectable” reason for refusing
Refuse your dream job just because you’re afraid of letting someone down
